The Beowulf Arms is a community of like-minded people who enjoy playing Arma in a style that we call "tactical realism".
Tactical Realism is best described as “Tactical Gameplay without the Milsim fluff” - this means that we operate in organised groups following realistic plans and strategies without using rank, restricting roles or any of the non-gameplay functions that often come with other Milsim communities.
This means that we get to play the most varied and fun Arma sessions possible! You can go from being a Cold War Spetsnaz operator, sneaking into a NATO base in one mission, to a modern Abrams tank commander as it storms Iraqi fortifications in the next; the only limits are our imagination and, with our open approach to community mission making, you can contribute too!
Our core missions are player COOPs against AI forces but do also run TvT missions. These missions are mostly pre-created by our mission maker team and encourage all those interested to contribute entire missions or even just ideas for missions. Some missions will be designed with Arma 3's Zeus in mind, and the mission maker and host have access to Zeus at all times to make on-the-fly fixes if needed. We also run Zeus creator sessions outside of normal sessions as part of other events.
Currently, Arma 3 is the focus of our Arma sessions. But we also dabble in Arma: Reforger, and keep an eye on its future and what else is on the horizen…
We are a UK-based community, with several EU members and even a few regulars from the US! Our Arma sessions run every Sunday at 1900 UK time (UTC or BST).
We have no attendance requirements or multi-clanning policies; everyone is welcome at a Beowulf session, be it for a whole evening or just a part of the night.
Our sessions consist of several missions created by our own mission makers using a bespoke mission framework. Combined with our missionhub and other mission maker resources, the Arma session hosting staff are able to consistently run high-quality Arma sessions for all to enjoy.
For most sessions, a mission that fits the current number of players on the server will be loaded. The host will introduce the mission's intro which will include any required knowledge, for a mission leader to step up and start calling the slots they wish to be taken on a first come first serve basis.
The mission shall be played, and once complete the process shall repeat. We aim to run between 2-3 missions during a session, with the potential for small scenarios and gather missions - our name for dynamically generated scenarios both COOP and TvT - to be played before and after the main session.
If you wish to attend a session, please respond with an “Interest” to the event, and try to arrive with plenty of time to allow the session host to better plan the missions available on the night.
The more important slots such as leadership, pilots, JTACs, and Forward Observers will be monitored by the staff.
We wish to give all those who believe they have sufficient understanding of our session play style, and the equipment/role to have a chance. But the staff will reserve the right to block those who do not have sufficient experience from taking roles.
This is not an act of cruelty for the individual, but more careful consideration for the enjoyment of the wider group for the session. To avoid disappointment, be honest with yourself and your skills.
Of course, accidents happen, and we all have our off nights. So don't panic or feel pressured by our approach to these types of slots! If there are ever any issues, please speak to a member of staff.
In the future, we hope to offer more and more training opportunities to support player development and share our skills and knowledge as a community.
The Beowulf Arms has created its won preset of popular community mods, with our own configurations and changes
This list includes community stapes, such as RHS and CUP Maps, some useful additions, such as Prone Launchers or DUI Squad Radar, and a whole bunch of gameplay enhancements, including the excellent ACE and ACRE as well as a slew of custom in-house additions, including terrifying black market rocket system, currently known as “Project Rokit”!
The Beowulf Arms is also home to a variety of handy tools developed by us, for us - some of our many projects include a custom mission hub, a stats system for tracking kills and replaying/reviewing missions and our own custom, lightweight mod installer, known as the “Beowulf Sync Utility”.
We're an open and welcoming community - the only requirement to play with us is that you are 18+ and go through a short chat with us to see if you fit the group.
